This 'due process,' and their access to criminal courts as opposed tribunals, generates one simple question I have never heard anyone else ask before: If a combatant in the field is due criminal proceedings, Miranda Rights, and discovery, then how can we drop missiles on them from drones? If they have these rights AFTER we capture them, they surely have due process BEFORE we do. I think Barack Obama has set himself up for violating due process by acting preemptively in cases where our soldiers are not actively being fired upon.I think he stupidly set this precedent,and now may be endorsing human rights violations by killing 'suspects' who aren't (at the time we kill them) using deadly force. According rights onto people doesn't begin or end when they are captured. Obama has invented a Catch-22!! President Obama was elected on a promise to be out of Iraq by the end of 2009. He was wrong to join Harry Reid in that surrender, and thankfully General Patraeus was right, and they were wrong. Nonetheless, the president is now on record stating we will NOT be out by year's end. In fact, his current Iraq Commander is talking about a 10 year window. Essentially, Obama fought against military success in Iraq while our troops were there fighting, and now he is remaining there without crediting George Bush or General Patraeus. Remember, he would not sign a senate resolution condemning the dopey Move-on.Org ad criticizing that fine man. |
